We went against the "rules". We weren't supposed to give him any "solids" until he is 6 months old but the kid really really wanted to eat! He reached for our food every time we had it and tracked it with his eyes and hands. I tested putting an empty spoon in his mouth and he was all about it.
We made our own rice cereal using brown rice, you just ground it up into a powder (we used the coffee grinder) and then cook it for 20 minutes or so in some water. Then thin it out with some formula and you're good! He really loved the concept of eating and would open his mouth for the spoon and mostly keep food in. The hands were another story. He loved to put his hands in his mouth after and then smear it all over, so much fun!
I think I will continue with rice cereal for a week or so while Jordan is gone in Germany (yah did I mention Jordan will be out of the country for my first week of work? fun). I don't want to introduce too many things at once....he is already starting the process of teething so has baby orajel and general crabbiness for that. I think going back to work (tomorrow, boo hoo), teething, solid foods, getting used to daycare, having Jordan gone, etc. are just too much for this mama and baby for one week! Once we get into the groove....sweet potato/yams. MMM I think he will really enjoy those. :)
He really hasn't been that bad with the teething yet. It hasn't affected his sleep (I know it will eventually) but he just gets really fussy and does his "hurt" cry sometimes so I get him a frozen teether or put some orajel on his gums - cherry flavored...yum! He has also been refusing his bottles for the last few days and maybe takes 1 or 2 a day, so then he is crabby because he hasn't eaten enough too (at least he still gets half his food from nursing so he isn't completely hungry). Oh well, crabby Noah is not really all that crabby so I can't complain too much! If/when it gets worse I will get him some other baby pain meds and hope they cut quickly :) Poor little guy!
Ha ha, that last picture is great! I really wanted to wait until 6 months for solids too, but Sam is REALLY showing interest in food. So, our pediatrician gave us the okay to let her try rice cereal too. We are trying it this weekend!
